What is Profhilo?

Profhilo is a hyaluronic acid (HA) preparation produced using the NAHYCO thermal stabilisation method. The difference from an ordinary filler is that Profhilo has a low viscosity and spreads widely through the skin — instead of staying as a concentrated mass in one spot, it hydrates the layers of the skin and stimulates collagen and elastin synthesis.

The classic injection protocol is the 5-point technique (BAP — Bio Aesthetic Points): 5 specific points on each side of the face. This ensures that Profhilo is distributed across the whole face and that the effect is even. Profhilo is also used to treat the neck, décolletage and hands.

Profhilo is above all suited to improving the overall quality of the skin: hydration, radiance, skin density, and the tightening of thinned skin. It is not suited to filling specific wrinkles or adding volume. The result is natural — the skin looks better cared for, but not altered.

Profhilo prices in Estonia and how a session goes

A single Profhilo session costs €250–400 in Estonia. A typical course (2 sessions 4 weeks apart) costs €500–800. The neck and décolletage are usually separate treatment areas, each €250–400 per session. The consultation is mostly charged separately at €30–80.

At the consultation the doctor assesses your skin type, your needs and your suitability. Profhilo suits patients aged roughly 30–60 whose skin laxity is mild to moderate. The session itself takes 15–30 minutes. A numbing cream is applied 30 minutes beforehand, and the injections go into 5 points on each side of the face.

After the session there is usually mild visible swelling ("papules" or "droplets") at the injection points for 6–12 hours. These subside on their own. Bruising at the injection points is uncommon but possible. Social downtime is usually 12–24 hours, until the small swellings have dissolved.

How to choose a clinic for Profhilo injections

The first criterion is a Health Board licence and a doctor who has completed specific Profhilo training from IBSA Aesthetics or a certified trainer. The Profhilo injection technique (the BAP 5-point method) demands precision — incorrect placement can cause the papules to persist longer or leave asymmetry.

Price differences between clinics usually reflect the doctor's level of experience and the clinic's general price level. There should be no such thing as "cheap Profhilo" at a bargain price (it may be a counterfeit of the original product) — check that an authentic IBSA product is being used.

Risks, side effects and contraindications

Typical side effects are mild swellings (papules) at the injection points for 6–24 hours, minor bruising for 3–7 days, and slight tenderness. More serious and rare ones: granuloma, delayed allergic reaction, and infection (very rare under sterile conditions). In the hands of an experienced doctor the risks are minimal.

Contraindications: pregnancy, breastfeeding, autoimmune disease, blood clotting disorders, active skin inflammation or infection in the treatment area, and allergy to hyaluronic acid (rare). Tell your doctor about every medicine you take. To reduce the risk of bruising, avoid aspirin, ibuprofen and vitamin E for 1 week before the injections.

Profhilo in Estonia's larger cities

Profhilo injections are offered above all by aesthetic medicine clinics in Tallinn and Tartu, where the doctors have completed the specific training. Pärnu also has a few qualified doctors. Doctors who specialise in Profhilo are found mainly in the largest cities.
