Ultrasound cavitation
Also known as: ultrasonic cavitation, ultrasonic fat reduction
Low-frequency ultrasound that breaks fat cells apart non-invasively. The non-surgical alternative for localised fat deposits.
Cavitation, or ultrasound cavitation, is a non-invasive body-contouring method that uses low-frequency ultrasound (40 kHz) to break down fat cells and reduce localised fat deposits. In Estonia, this is offered by aesthetic clinics and body-treatment centres holding a Health Board (Terviseamet) operating licence — the target areas are usually the abdomen, thighs, arms, flanks and buttocks.
How does cavitation work?
The device's applicator sends a low-frequency ultrasound wave into the skin, which creates microscopic bubbles between fat cells (cavitation). As the bubbles collapse, they break down the adipocytes' cell walls, releasing their triglyceride content, which the body processes out via the liver with the help of the lymphatic system. Nearby muscles, nerves and blood vessels don't respond to this frequency and are not damaged.
A single session usually takes 30–45 minutes and can be repeated once a week, for a total of 6–10 sessions to achieve a lasting result. After each session, it's recommended to drink 2–3 litres of water and do light exercise, so the lymphatic system can clear the processed fat more quickly.
Cavitation in Estonia
In Estonian aesthetic clinics and body-treatment centres, a single cavitation session typically costs €50–110 per area, and packages of 6–10 sessions €280–800. To boost the result, cavitation is often combined with radiofrequency (RF), lymphatic massage or LPG massage. Contraindications: pregnancy, heart rhythm disorders, significant obesity, metabolic disorders and liver disease.
Frequently asked questions
What is cavitation?
Cavitation is a non-invasive body-contouring procedure that uses low-frequency ultrasound to break down fat cells. It suits reducing localised fat deposits (abdomen, thighs, flanks).
Is cavitation safe in Estonia?
Yes, when performed by a trained specialist at a Health Board-licensed centre. Contraindications are pregnancy, heart rhythm disorders and liver disease — always tell the specialist about your health condition before the session.
Where can I learn more about cavitation?
Consult a body-treatment specialist at an Estonian aesthetic clinic, who will assess your fat distribution and put together a personalised package. The first consultation is usually free or costs €20–40.
